Biography
Meral Ozsoyoglu received her PhD in Computer Science from University of Alberta in 1980. She joined the Computer Engineering and Science Department at Case Western Reserve University as an Assistant Professor in 1980. She is currently Professor of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Case School of Engineering at CWRU. Her primary work and research interests are in the areas of query languages and query processing, data models, and index structures in object oriented databases, multimedia databases, and temporal databases. Current work focuses on managing, visualizing and querying genomic pathways, and efficient access methods for genomic sequences. She has published over 60 papers in computer science journals including ACM TODS, IEEE TKDE, IEEE TSE, JCSS, and conferences including ACM SIGMOD, ACM PODS, VLDB and ICDE. She has been the Program Committee Chair of 1997 ACM PODS, 1999 SSDBM conferences, and the Program Co-chair of 2004 IEEE ICDE Conference. She also served as a vice-chair, co-chair and or member of many program committees. She has been vice chair of ACM SIGMOD Special Interest Group on Management of Data, 1997-2001. She is currently an Associate Editor of ACM Transactions on Database Systems and IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering. She is a recipient of IBM Faculty Award, NSF Faculty Award for Women in Science and Engineering (FAW) and Distinguished Alumni Award from University of Alberta.
